Mourning 3 South Carolinians Killed in Mississippi Bus Wreck
August 11th, 2008 . by Pete StromAs many of you have heard by now, our state suffered a great tragedy over the weekend when three South Carolinians lost their lives after their tour bus overturned in rural Mississippi.
The wreck occurred shortly after 10 a.m. local time near the town of Tunica when the bus flipped over in the median. There were no other vehicles involved.
According to the Charleston Post and Courier:
The roof of the bus partially collapsed in the rollover. Its windows were knocked out, and the sides were caked in mud. Mississippi Highway Patrol Sgt. Leslie White said it was raining at the time, but he would not speculate on whether that contributed to the crash.
Larry Liddell, Tunica County spokesman, said most of the passengers were from South Carolina.
Twenty-seven injured people were taken to Baptist Memorial Hospital in Southaven, Public Relations Coordinator Thomas Whitehead said.One person was in critical condition and five were being held for observation. The rest had minor injuries.
I send my sincere condolences to the families of Glenda Stone of Goose Creek, Charlotte Carros of Eutawville, and Paula Kemp of Mount Pleasant.
Those who were injured as well as those who survived and are currently on their way back to South Carolina are also in my thoughts and prayers. This is a very sad day in our state.
